March 23, 2026 marked the 40th anniversary of the Fédération des amis de la nature (FAN). The organization was founded in 1986, in a context of liberated expression and a renewed wave of civic engagement emerging in the wake of the end of the Duvalier dictatorship. At that time, the FAN acted as a pioneer, at a moment when environmental issues were not yet at the center of public debate.
