UN Warns of Sharp Rise in Killings Across Artibonite and Central Haiti

Between June 1 and August 31, 2025, the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) recorded 2,123 victims of intentional homicide nationwide, including 161 women, 16 girls, and 29 boys—a 10% decrease compared to the 2,364 victims recorded between March and May. However, the number of intentional homicides rose dramatically in the Artibonite and Centre departments, with 1,303 victims reported between January and August, compared to 419 during the same period in 2024—a 210% increase, according to the BINUH report presented t
