Before an audience composed of institutional, diplomatic, and civil society representatives, the descendant of slave traders, Pierre Guillon de Princé, 86, acknowledged an “overwhelming” past and recognized the moral responsibility tied to the legacy of slavery.

“It is a relief for me, as a descendant of a family of Nantes-based slave shipowners, to be able to present my apologies for the acts of my ancestors to a representative of the Haitian people, Mr. Louino Volcy, Ambassador of Haiti to France,”
