Cap-Haïtien Faces Triple Threat: Unsanitary Conditions, Chaotic Urbanization, and Seismic Risk

Cap-Haïtien is facing growing demographic pressure linked to national insecurity, the influx of internally displaced persons estimated at over one million, and a steadily increasing production of waste. Invited to the third Finance Summit in the Greater North, organized by Group Croissance, agronomist Joanas Gué presented a troubling overview while proposing possible solutions.

“The problem is not limited to garbage collection but also to its treatment,” he reminded, stressing that the absence of an effective waste collection system and the nonexistence of the National Solid Waste Management Service (SNGRS) in Cap-Haïtien worsen the situation. Without equipment or personnel, the city hall is unable to effectively fulfill its mission.
