The Liberal Party of conservative Flávio Bolsonaro acknowledged on Monday the reelection of leftist President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the head of Brazil, while its candidate has not formally admitted his defeat.
"We recognize the result of the presidential election proclaimed by the Superior Electoral Tribunal," the party stated in a communiqué, while asking for "clarifications" on the impact of social assistance approved by Lula during the campaign.
Flávio Bolsonaro, who announced on Sunday that he would request the annulment of the vote, has abandoned this approach, stating that he would seek from the courts the invalidation of Lula's candidacy for "abuse of economic and political power."
