European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen congratulated her "friend" Lula on Monday for his re-election the day before, stating that "democracy and multilateralism have won in Brazil" during the second round of the presidential election.
"The partnership between Europe and Brazil is doing very well," she noted on X. "We will stand by your side for the years to come. Together, we will continue to work closely for free and open trade. A rules-based global order. And strong ambitions for our climate," added the president of the European executive, following the victory of the left-wing head of state over conservative Flavio Bolsonaro in the second round of the presidential election.
