The BINUH encourages a full deployment of the Gendarmerie Force

At the ministerial meeting of the Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Haiti of the Economic and Social Council (Ecosoc) of the United Nations (UN) on Thursday, September 24, 2026, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Haiti, Carlos Ruiz Massieu, deems the renewal of the Gang Suppression Force (GSF) and its complete deployment in the country fundamental. “The renewal is only part of the equation,” he states, urging to facilitate the full deployment and operational capacity of the GSF as soon as possible. He calls on national authorities, the United Nations, development partners, and international financial institutions to be ready to act swiftly and in a coordinated manner whenever security openings arise.
