René Depestre honoré à Lézignan-Corbières

On the occasion of his 102nd birthday, René Depestre received, this Saturday, August 29, the honor medal from the city of Lézignan-Corbières, France. The ceremony took place at his residence, in the presence of a delegation led by the Haitian Ambassador to France, His Excellency Mr. Louino Volcy.

This tribute follows a proposal from the Embassy of Haiti in France, made last February, aiming for the city to honor the Haitian writer, who has lived there for 40 years. Mayor Gérard Forcada praised his career and his contribution to the ties between Lézignan-Corbières and Haiti.

René Depestre thanked the organizers and those present, calling their presence a “beacon in the night of his 102 years”.
