Meta will restrict users under 18 to a maximum of two hours per day on Instagram and Facebook combined and will block access to the two apps, excluding messaging, from midnight to 6 AM, according to an agreement reached on Wednesday with about fifty U.S. states and pending approval by a federal judge in Oakland, California.
These settings, which can only be relaxed by a parent, are set to take effect in the participating states within six months. Notifications will also be turned off from 10 PM to 7 AM and during school hours, "likes" counters will be hidden, and filters mimicking plastic surgery will be disabled.
