The ousted Venezuelan head of state, Nicolas Maduro, captured on Saturday by the U.S. military, pleaded not guilty on Monday in New York to the drug trafficking charges brought against him and asserted that he is “still the president” of his country.

“I am innocent, I am not guilty. I am an honest man,” said the former 63-year-old leader, according to CNN, before the judge of the Southern District of Manhattan, who formally notified him of his indictment on four counts.
