One after another, the downtown institutions of Port-au-Prince are being attacked by armed groups. In just one week, there have been attacks on a container carrying banknotes, assaults on the Port-au-Prince port, the international airport, and the national penitentiary, to name just the major incidents. At the same time, police substations in Port-au-Prince, Delmas, and neighboring towns have been attacked, overrun, or set ablaze by heavily armed and determined young gang members.
