A Kenyan court, approached by the opposition, temporarily suspended on Monday a government project to send police officers to Haiti as part of a UN security mission for the Caribbean country grappling with gang violence.

Last week, the United Nations Security Council gave the green light for a multinational mission led by Kenya to be deployed to Haiti, for which Nairobi pledged to provide 1,000 police officers.
