Kenyan President William Ruto, who has proposed leading a security force in Haiti, called on the UN Security Council on Thursday to swiftly give its approval, deeming it "out of the question" to abandon a population terrorized by gangs.

"The cries of our brothers and sisters, the first to win their battle for freedom against colonial tyranny, have reached our ears and our hearts," he declared from the podium of the United Nations General Assembly.
