According to Jim Jacob Pierre, Director of the Culture and Tourism Unit in the municipality of Jacmel and also President of the carnival office, a total of 172 masquerade groups have been registered beforehand. He indicated that according to the pre-selection criteria, the first list was reduced to 89 groups. "The organization of this pre-parade should allow the carnival office not only to see the groups that are ready but also to have a definitive list," said Pierre.

On February 12th, under the auspices of the municipal council of Jacmel through its Carnival office, a pre-carnival took place. More than a hundred masquerade groups and some twenty foot bands participated in this event on avenue Barranquilla de Jacmel. While the official carnival is scheduled to take place on Sunday February 19th around the theme "Jakmèl, Ann ale,” the carnival office, in order to select the main masquerade groups, the foot bands and the musical groups that will participate in the official carnival of Jacmel, considered it important to evaluate their performances one week ahead.
